Westpoint graduate and instructor Major Jason Amerine was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his actions while commanding Operational Detachment team Alpha 574 in and around Tarin Kowt during November of 2001. Special Forces teams are a highly effective military resource and have subsequently become one of the highest demand assets in the war on terror. These small teams live and operate deep inside enemy territory often organizing and training the local populous to assist in the efforts against a common enemy. US Army Major Jason Amerine Commanded Operational Detachment team Alpha 574. ODA 574 is credited with organizing the villagers in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan and defeating an overwhelming Taliban force using only 12 soldiers. The devastating and demoralizing blow to the Taliban would prove critical to the battle in Kandahar and ultimately led to the surrender of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the appointment of Democratic leadership.
