Thomas Norris was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam in April of 1972. Navy Seal Thomas Norris participated in many a harrowing rescue. One particular mission started with the rescue of a pilot who possessed critical classified information and could not be allowed to fall into enemy hands. After his successful rescue deep in enemy territory Norris lost half of his team in an ambush and was tasked with another rescue. He and a Vietnamese counterpart paddled a small boat upriver directly through countless enemy positions, rescued the second downed pilot and effected the safe return of both. All told the rescue mission would prove to be the longest throughout the course of the war.
