Joe Jackson was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Kham Duc, South Vietnam in May of 1968. Joe Jackson began his military career as an aircraft engine mechanic in World War II. During that war he moved on to become a pilot and subsequently flew fighters in the Korean War, and cargo aircraft in Vietnam. It was in the jungles of Vietnam that he was faced with the challenge of evacuating the last three members of a base at Kham Duc. The success of his effort was nothing short of miraculous.
