March 25th has been designated by congress the day that the nation pays respect to recipients of its highest honor. Beginning just a few short years ago those Medal of Honor recipients agreed that they would turn that honor around and honor civilians who showed courage and selflessness under dire circumstances. Living Medal of Honor recipients gather on this day at Arlington National Cemetery, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns, and present three Civilian Service Before Self Awards and this year for the first time they presented the American Spirit Award to a young Boy Scout.
