Recamp V was an exercise led by the French and hosted by Cameroon, Africa. Its purpose was to assist, train, and unite people from several African nations. RECAMP stands for REnforcement Capacites Africaines Maintien Paix. Exercise RECAMP V was held by the French in and around the nation of Cameroon. As the French acronym implies it's purpose is to re-enforce the capacity of Africans to maintain peace. The US participated in a number of civil affairs projects as well as training initiatives with military members of various African nations. Maritime military assets were trained to defend their waterways against threats such as smuggling and piracy as well as fire suppression and schools and hospitals benefitted directly from civil engineering projects.
